You’re Invited to a Summer of Celebrations with Chica Project!
We have a lot to celebrate this month, including Chica Project’s 14th birthday!
On June 26, 2011, a group of 10 chicas decided that they were going to make a difference. Understanding the importance of mentorship and sisterhood–especially for young Women of Color–these chicas, led by Nurys Camargo, embarked on a mission to open doors for Black and Brown girls in their community. 14 years later, Chica Project has served more than 3,500 chicas and continues to work towards a world where young Women of Color can thrive both personally and professionally. Through in-school curriculums, workshops, advocacy, and community engagement, Chica Project sets chicas up with the skills, tools, contacts, and self-confidence to successfully launch themselves into adulthood, on whatever path they choose.
In celebration of our 14th birthday, Chica Project invites you to join us at Culture Fest on Thursday, June 26 at Gallivan Community Center. A vibrant gathering of joy, identity, and connection, this event is FREE and open to the community. We believe that every culture brings something special to the table. Honoring our commitment to diversity and inclusion, Culture Fest is a celebration of the differences that bring us together. Invite your family and friends and take advantage of free food, music, live performances, face painting, arts and crafts, and more!
In addition to Chica Project’s birthday and Culture Fest, we are also celebrating Pride Month and Juneteenth. These holidays are continuous representations of resistance and resilience. The fight for equal rights is not just a story for the history books. Centuries and decades later, we still champion for diversity and equality in every aspect of our lives. Let’s celebrate how far we’ve come and the leaders that brought us here while continuing to speak up for the issues that matter to us.
If you feel inspired to uplift the next generation of diverse, powerhouse leaders and want to support a community of inclusion, consider joining Chica Project’s mission to empower more young Women of Color. There are so many ways to get involved: join us at our community events (like Culture Fest!), rep chica merch, engage with us on social media, become a mentor, or give financially so that we can continue to serve the communities that mean so much to us. The opportunities are endless! Your investment today sparks change for generations to come
Thank you for being a part of 14 years of growth and connection! We hope you’ll continue to be a part of the chica familia for 14 more years and beyond.
