Cultivating Confidence: Chica Camp 2026 Recap
From thoughtful activities to exciting excursions, Chica Camp 2026 centered on empowerment and sisterhood.
From July 21-23, our chicas traveled to Ocean Park, Maine, for three days and two nights of growth, relaxation, and connection. Chica Project’s annual Chica Camp allows young Women of Color to unplug and connect with their fellow chicas through hands-on activities, skill-building workshops, and bonding exercises. Thanks to the amazing work of our program manager, facilitators, and mentors, as well as the participation of our chica campers, Chica Camp 2026 was an engaging and meaningful time of empowerment and sisterhood.
Here are a few highlights from Chica Camp 2026.
Collaboration & Community
“Agent X Future” Team-building Challenge
This escape-room-style challenge had campers become teams of “agents” tasked with solving the mysterious disappearance of Agent X’s Future. Through investigative teamwork, each group of chicas worked to identify which “suspects” – Procrastination, Fear, Distraction, Comparison, Overcommitment, or Poor Planning – were responsible. This activity encouraged communication, critical thinking, and reflection on the habits that can either support or hinder personal growth.
Beach Day, Bonfire, Fashion Shows, and Karaoke
A visit to the beach, an evening at the bonfire, and a playful fashion show and karaoke night helped strengthen the chicas’ relationships with each other. Meaningful conversations, shared experiences, laughter, and time with friends emphasized the joy of sisterhood and being present with one another.
Outdoor Activities and Movement
Outdoor games, movement activities, and recreational experiences promoted teamwork, physical wellness, and active engagement.
Skill Building & Self-reflection
Self-love, Self-expression, and Self-care Workshop
Facilitated by Camp Mentor Katrina Rojas, this workshop consisted of a guided journaling activity and six interactive self-care stations. Chicas built personalized self-care kits, created affirmation cards, personalized poem frames, and more. The focus of this workshop was to help participants practice healthy wellness habits while encouraging reflection and creativity.
Social Media Safety Workshop
This workshop was facilitated by Camp Mentor Rebecca Davila and centered on navigating social media responsibly. Campers explored practical social media safety strategies, such as understanding media literacy, practicing healthy online habits, and being aware of one’s own digital footprint.
Vision Board Workshop
As the last formal programming of the camp, this workshop allowed the chicas to reflect on their personal goals, dreams, and aspirations through artistic expression.
